AWARDS SHINE RAY OF LIGHT :: Williamsport Sun-Gazette
Student actors honored, by ASHLEY M. WISLOCK, awislock@sungazette.com, June 1, 2009
amy peck
Williamsport Area High School student Amy Peck said her mind was racing as her name was read Sunday night at the Community Arts Center. "I was so nervous," she said. "I was thinking, 'OK, I'm not going to be upset if I don't get it.' Then they said my name and I was just so honored." Peck won "Best Performance by a Supporting Actress in a Musical," during the first Community Theatre League Ray of Light Awards, which were presented during a lavish ceremony.

Students from across Lycoming County were honored at the event, which had the feel of an Academy Awards show, complete with a red carpet, musical performances, award statuettes and thank-you speeches...

CONGRATULATIONS to all the participating schools :: Hughesville, Jersey Shore, Loyalsock, Montgomery, Montoursville, Muncy, Saint John Neumann, South Williamsport and Williamsport.

The Awards Ceremony

The Ray of Light Awards Ceremony will take place on Sunday, May 31, 2009, 7 p.m. at The Community Arts Center, 220 West Fourth Street, Williamsport. The event is semi-formal and is styled after the Oscars® and the Tonys®.

College Scholarships
An honorarium/scholarship will be given to each of the individual award winners (Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress).

Red Carpet
We have a “red carpet” experience for the students as they arrive at the Community Arts Center for the Rays. There will be a video camera and interviewers stationed outside the theatre between 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.  The interviews will be transmitted live to the screen in the CAC lobby.

Musical Numbers
The Awards Ceremony will open with a group musical number featuring a small ensemble from each of the participating schools. The evening will also include musical numbers from some of the participating high schools at the invitation of the judges.

VIP Reception afterward (by invitation only)
There will be a VIP Reception/Ball after the Awards Ceremony in the Capitol Lounge. This will give the participating students, nominees, their parents, and sponsors and staff an opportunity to socialize. The Reception will begin immediately after the Awards Ceremony (around 9:00 p.m.) and will continue until 11:00 p.m.

Tickets

With so many participating schools, tickets will go fast. We recommend that you purchase your tickets early. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students.

Each nominee will be given three tickets to the ceremony.  Additional participants in the musical numbers and their instructor will be given a complimentary ticket to the ceremony.  The Awards Ceremony (open to all) and VIP Reception (by invitation only) are formal (black tie optional).

Schools to be invited:  Williamsport, South Williamsport, St. John Neumann Regional Academy, Loyalsock, Montoursville, Muncy, Hughesville, Montgomery, and Jersey Shore.

Each school's student adjudicator will be the liason/coordinator for their group.  This person will attend a pre-production meeting and will be in charge of getting performance groups to the stage and organizing their school’s participation.  Instructors are welcome at all meetings as well.

There will be a dress rehearsal/set up time beginning at noon on May 31 to rehearse the group number(s), and work out the logistics of the event.  The students in the invited production numbers will be given a chance to practice their song on the stage prior to the actual ceremony
