gettin' schooled

gettin' schooled

What are you doing man?! Sitting there letting your brain rot out of your head? Whoops, 3rd grade just fell on the floor. That's pretty nasty, get a mop and clean it up before you let 4th grade run out your nose. There are endless possibilities in the world and you'll let them all slip away if don't learn a thing or two. Plus life is like ten times easier with a little know-how! So I'll tell you what, you check out this page a little in the future and I bet your bottom dollar you'll learn something here. If you don't, you didn't read it! If you can't read, you don't know what all of this is saying and you should go to the library and enroll in a literacy course.

  CAPPA
CAPPA is held each Saturday from 10 – 3. The normal age range for these youth is 7-19, and there is no fee. The youth come to this program from buses that they catch throughout town. They do various activities within groups. For instance, they sing, dance, get on the computer, have discussions about future life goals, talk about real life situations, mentoring, arts/crafts, etc. Then the students will come back at 12 for lunch. While eating lunch, Loni will speak to them about various upcoming things. The students then go back into their groups and do more activities until it is time to leave. In the summer, the program has various activities as well, such as a basketball league. Also, the program will help the students with reading and math so they can score better on their PSSA’s in school. Every Spring, CAPPA presents an annual Talent "Showcase" which includes song, dance, music and more.   Loni Gamble or

  Salvation Army
This program is open from 3:30pm – 5pm on weekdays during the school year. The youth here typically arrive at the facility around 3:45 due to transportation from the school. Transportation is provided by buses from Sheridan, Curtin, Cochran, Stevens, and Williamsport Christian schools. This program is set up for youth who have fallen behind in test scores such as the PSSA’s and qualify for eligibility through a state grand called Classroom Plus. The program typically caters to children in the elementary school age-range. The program is free of charge for students. Each child meets with a qualified mentor or tutor who are typically volunteers from Lycoming College and students from Williamsport Area High School. The Salvation Army is working toward providing one-on-one tutoring. There is a computer lab for the students to use. There is also a 30 minute time period for recreation and program participants are provided with a meal.
